di Spagna or the Spanish Steps are so called because
the Spanish Embassy is located here. The steps lead
from Bernini's fountain - ingeniously sunk below ground
level - up to the Trinita'Dei Monti. The Spanish Steps
change their appearance according to the season, in
Summer time the steps are barely visible being almost
completely covered by resting tourists, amorous roman
males or hungry pigeons. In Spring the steps are adorned
with huge tubs of Azaleas for the fashion shows which
involve the worlds leading super models. In Winter
time as part of the christmas preperations a crib
is erected half way up the steps...
